Chapter Five

Is this really happening?

Was Carpenter King really my mate and the father of my possible future kids? There was just so much to take in. And maybe that was the reason he’d had to put our interlude the night before to an end.

He knew more than I did just how much all of this was going to mess with my head.

As we walked up the stairs inside the leap house to the second floor where both our rooms were located, I stopped him with a hand to his arm. “What now?” I whispered, in a funny little place somewhere between excited and nervous as hell.

“I told you. All of this is up to you. I’ve had seventy-three years to get used to the idea of having a mate and devoting not just a lifetime, but multiple lifetimes to someone.” He took his other hand and gently removed mine from his arm, raising it to his mouth and kissing the knuckles. Like a proper fucking gentleman. “If you need more time to think about this mating thing, I’ll give you all the time in the world. As long as you don’t reject me completely, you can take as long as you want deciding.”

“But what if I’m ready now?” Again, nothing more than a whisper. “What then?”

He licked his lips, swallowing. I could see the flare of hope in his eyes and I felt myself fall a little more.

“Then I’d claim you,” he whispered back, his mouth still against the back of my hand. His eyes scanned my face over and over and I wondered what he was seeing there as elation and a smidge of nervousness bloomed in my chest.

“And what does that entail exactly?”

Shoving me against the wall, right there on the stairs, Carpenter pressed his entire body to mine. His already hard dick was digging into my stomach and mine into his thigh as he put his mouth next to my ear.

My heart was racing as I gripped his sides, loving how perfect it felt to have my fingertips dig into the thick pads of his lats.

“I’ll fuck you and then sink my teeth into the tender flesh of your neck,” he whispered, letting his head drop to rub the scruff of his beard against the area on my neck below my jaw and all the way down to where my shoulder started, making me shudder and the skin probably turn bright red.

Groaning, I pushed my hips forward, using the handfuls of muscle to pull him in tighter, rubbing my dick against his hard, thick thigh. “I prefer the term making love, Carpenter King,” I berated in a choked whisper.

Pulling back, he smirked at me, pressing his thigh even harder against my shaft while nipping gently at my lip. “No you don’t, little s’more.”

Pushing his tongue between my lips, he licked into my mouth, running it along every surface, including the roof. And who the fuck knew that was an erogenous zone?

A man should be warned. My fucking eyes rolled back in my head and I nearly blew right in my pants.
